The 80% Problem Nobody’s Talking About

April 19, 2026 | Career Transitions

There’s a version of career advisory that’s been around for decades.

You sit across from someone. They listen. They nod. They ask thoughtful questions. You leave feeling heard, maybe with a framework or a list of action items.

Then you’re out of the meeting and you still don’t know what to do next.

This isn’t a people problem. It’s a process problem. It’s exactly what Terri Wiksten and I built ReflectionPoint Advisors to fix.

How I got here.

My background is technology, sales, and operations. I’ve sold on the front lines and led from the C-suite. I co-founded a web development and digital marketing agency, built it, and sold it. After that, I spent over five years working alongside Terri at the executive level, helping professionals navigate career transitions and building the systems that made better decisions possible.

What I kept seeing in that work changed everything about how I think about careers.

People don’t stall because they lack talent. They don’t stall because the market is against them. They stall when their work, their goals, and their sense of direction stop lining up. The gap between what’s happening and what leadership believes is happening is where careers get stuck. It’s where companies lose momentum. And it’s almost never what people think it is when they first come to us.

Here’s where AI comes in. And where it doesn’t.

We use AI-powered tools at ReflectionPoint as part of how we work with both senior professionals who feel something is off and founders whose businesses no longer feed their lives the way they once did.

AI gets you to about 80% of the answers. It’s fast. It has pattern recognition that would have taken weeks to surface five years ago.

The last 20% is human work.

That’s the question behind the question. The thing you haven’t said yet because you haven’t had anyone to say it to. The moment in a conversation when something clicks. Not because an algorithm suggested it, but because someone who has been in the room with enough leaders and founders knows what to listen for.

AI handles the analysis. Humans handle the judgment. That’s the 80/20 principle we build everything around at RPA.

How this plays out in practice.

Two kinds of people find their way to us.

The first is the senior professional, Director through C-suite, who has built something real and knows something is off. Not broken. Not failed. Just not quite fitting anymore. They’re not confused about work. They’re confused about alignment. That distinction shapes every conversation we have.

The second is the founder or growth leader carrying weight quietly. The business is moving. The team is capable. But something across the people, the process, or the vision has drifted. They don’t need a consultant who hands them a deck and disappears. They need a thinking partner who can hold the whole picture with them.

Both are at what we call a Reflection Point.

Not a crisis. A moment of awareness. The moment when what got you here isn’t quite enough to feel like it’s where you actually want to be anymore. That’s true for someone mid-transition who chose it, and equally true for someone who didn’t get to choose.

What you’ll find here.

Terri covers the job market with clarity and depth. I’ll share Career Ops: the frameworks we use, the questions that tend to unlock things, and an honest read on where AI helps and where it falls short.

What I know, I built over two decades of watching smart people get stuck and find their way through.

If something in your work life isn’t quite fitting right now, you’re probably in the right place.

Welcome.
