Hello Hutzpah, it’s been awhile…

January 21, 2026 | Perspective

Hutzpah (from Yiddish, with Hebrew roots) means audacity.

Nerve.

I have always considered it a kind of confidence that doesn’t wait for permission, and doesn’t need validation, like ever.

It’s backbone with flavor.

Somewhere along the way, I seemed to have misplaced mine. Not in a dramatic blaze of burnout—but in a slow, professional erosion.

A stressful job. High expectations. Low reinforcement.

Plenty of responsibility. Very little oxygen.

Hutzpah doesn’t vanish overnight.

It fades.

You stop pushing ideas forward. You edit yourself preemptively.

You get very good at endurance, and forget what expansion and reward feels like.

Then comes the ending.

Then, the exit everyone assumes will provide great relief. Which is totally true.

But, it also feels… quiet. Reassuring.

And in that quiet, guess what I found?

Hello, Hutzpah.

A little bruised. Much wiser. Still standing.

Not loud anymore. Not reckless.

No longer interested in proving anything.

Because hutzpah isn’t about bravado.

It’s about remembering who you were before your courage became a job requirement.

Turns out she never left.

She was just waiting for better working conditions.
